February 22, 2013 - DLE-TEST05 : After the tests DLE-TEST03 of my Bi-Toroïd Transformer (BiTT v1.0) from Thane C. Heins, I have noticed that the primary coil inductance and resistance (the L/R parameter) and the material used for the ferromagnetic core have a major role to get the best phase shifting (90° or Cos(F) = 0) between the current and the voltage required to the get the Heins' Effect. So, I have changed the primary coil of my BiTT v1.0 and kept its ferromagnetic core with its two secundaries.

Here, the Bi-Toroïd BiTT v1.5 transformer :

The primary coil is made with an inductor (Hi-Pot) commonly used in the switching power supplies. One side of the primary core has been removed so as to link its magnetic flux path to the small magnetic flux path of the bi-toroïd core.

Below the setup used for the TEST-DLE05 :

So as to get the best impedance of the load connected and to measure the power at the BiTT v1.5 outputs, I have connected a LF professional Wattmeter Ferisol N300C accross the two secundaries. Below the technical specifications of this Ferisol N300C Wattmeter :

The measurements of the voltage, current and phase shifting (voltage, current) are measured with a digital scope Rigol.

Above the voltage (CH1, the yellow curve) and the current (CH2, the blue curve). Above, the phase shifting angle is 72° this gives a Cos
(F) = 0.309

When the BiTT v1.5 is loaded on a 4 Ohm impedance (2.8 Watt is measured at the outputs), we observe that there is no change in the primary parameters (voltage, current, phase shifting)...

Comments :

The tests results of this new version of my Bi-Toroïd Transformer v1.5, a replication of the BiTT of Thane C. Heins, are very encouraging. The Heins' Effect is really present here, when the BiTT v1.5 gives 2.8 Watt at the outputs, there is no additional power consummed at the primary input. The performance of the primary coil is a very important factor in the success, the phase shifting between the voltage and the current (unloaded) must be close to 90° (Cos(F) = 0), this implies that the L/R factor must be very high. My current version of the BiTT v1.5 is not yet overunity because the primary coil has too much Joule losses (L/R too weak, Cos(F) = 0.309 too high) and also the ferromagnetic material used for the core must be improved. I shall soon build and test a new version of my BiTT...

As Thane C. Heins has written in the document "How to make a Bi-Toroid Transformer and Exceed 100% Efficiency":
<<The Bi-Toroid Transformer (BiTT) operates as a Magnetic Diode, consumes almost pure reactive power but delivers real power to the loads and only allows the transfer of energy in one direction. Because the BiTT primary is isolated from the secondary on-load induced flux, the BiTT primary power factor and current do not change from no-load to on-load. With a purely resistive load on the BiTT the primary power factor is virtually zero and the efficiency of the energy transfer is increased accordingly.>>

Stay tuned,
