GREAT EVENT - Dec 4th, 1999 - "The Power On Board" test in a closed run :

The "Power On Board" test (POB test) in a closed run is a new great step for the ARDA Project. The purpose of this test is to prove that a Biefeld-Brown effect flying wing is able to generate its OWN THRUST with its power supply "on board" and disconnected from the ground. This proves definitely that the ARDA Concept is real and can be applied on a full scale craft. (see the ARDA Mk3 pictures and details)

In the previous POB test done on November 27th, 1999, the ARDA Mk3 did run only a half turn successfully during two tests due to the lack of space for a full turn. This new test has been conducted in a wider area (a hangar) which allows a full turn in closed loop without problem.

The wing surface is covered by a thin conductive layer ( a thin aluminum sheet ) and connected to the positive potential of the High Voltage Generator. A thin wire used as the negative electrode (connected to zero potential of the High Voltage Generator) is placed just in front of the leading edge of the ARDA Wing and a above center line as shown in the diagram below.

ARDA Mk3 "POB" Tests - Data sheet

Wing span 1460 mm
Lenght 1255 mm
Wing area 70 dm2
Aifoil profile Eppler 338 with special EHD features
HV Power supply Power Input 35.60 Watts ( 17.12V DC / 2.08 A )
High Voltage output +30 kV
HV Current Output 307 uA
HV Power Ouput 9.21 Watts
Wing total weight 3.7 kg
Suspension apparatus 3 kg
Main radius of arm 1.3 m
Total Weight 6.7 kg
Avg Turn rate 74 seconds per turn

The HV Current Output is 307uA at +30 kV

The "Power On Board" test has been done successfully on December 4th, 1999 ( 16h00 )...

The ARDA Mk3 with the POB has been tethered by a nylon rope on a special suspension apparatus.

The ARDA wing was completly ungrounded with the CdNi batteries and the HVpower supply on board,
all the commands (HV power on/off..) have been transmitted by a radio control system.

The ARDA wing has been tethered on its center of gravity by the motor pylon.

The "Power On Board" TEST RESULTS :

The ARDA Mk3 wing has previously been set on a stable position with no initial motion (without initial kinetic energy). When the High Voltage (+ 30kV) was remotely energized, the wing began to translate gently and silently forward ...

Two full closed run tests have been done successfully.

The experiment has showed that ARDA wing is able to propel itself as long as the HV generator was activated. You will notice that the thrusting capabilities of the ARDA Mk3 wing are better than the simple air drag reduction effect. Today the thrust is weak but in the futur version the thrust will be greatly increased with some major improvements ( with a special UGDP skin (a Uniform Glow Discharge Plasma skin ) on all the wing surface, this will be implemented on the ARDA Mk6 )...

There is no motor, no moving parts and the fly is done silently.

The full closed run with the power on board has proven definitely that the ARDA concept is now a reality....
